| Stormbringer | 03-09-2008 15:47 | | Slams: 5896 | thanks mate! I still have time to code some this week. After that, the next 2 weeks, I'll be abroad and quite busy

| Shockwave | 01-09-2008 17:06 | | Slams: 2116 | Just a heads up, I have just phoned Tetra about the resources page and we chatted about the search page, the resources and also the reamining parts of the current development phase.
Within the current phase there are a few critical things that are halfway to being implimented, these things range from trivial things like URL and IMG tags for users to post hyperlinks and pictures and to important things like admin tools and as they are half done already it makes sense to finish them.
Tetra agreed to make the resources page jump the queue and be the next phase of the site development after the admin tools are finished, so any thoughts you have on the resources page please put them down somewhere in writing, either on here or to me or to Tetra so that we can design how it should work and how it should look.
It's best to do it like this because;
1: We won't be deviating from the current plan.
2: We'll get a better planned and better functioning resource page.
Onto the search page, the grouping buttons looks really cool, I discussed with Tetra the option of having drop downs for each field and using the text box to search all fields of the database. He says that it would be processor intensive on our server because it has to work out the relationship between productions and I suggested a cache system where these relationships are pre-calculated to save server load. This might take a little while to do so please have patience.
The competition...
I think that a good compromise for the competition is that I set up a ftp page where trusted resourcers can upload stuff that is requested, this page can then be accessed by members of this community and also on DBF, this will be a good solution to having somewhere to put the resources that will not interfere with Tetras coding and the planned progression of the site, which is moving along at a great pace.
I hope that's ok, if I've missed anything out I am sorry, please let me know and I'll do my best to sort it out.

| Shockwave | 01-09-2008 16:10 | | Slams: 2116 | Nice one, probably tomorrow is easier because I have a zillion things to do around the house before the missus gets home.
Thanks mate.
|
| | Slams: ∞ | @Stormbringer - I've put the group list into alphabetical order
@Shockwave - that would be cool, i'll be about for a little while today, so mite have a chance, otherwise it will be tomorrow. I'll have my mobile on and on me too if that help
I know you think you understand what you
thought I said but I'm not sure you realize
that what you heard is not what I meant. |
| Shockwave | 01-09-2008 15:34 | | Slams: 2116 | Hi Tetra, I will phone you some time during the week to chat about the site development as you wish
I'll give you a bell when it's convenient for you, I'll check with you on ICQ
|
| Stormbringer | 01-09-2008 13:17 | | Slams: 5896 | @Tetra: excellent! if you have a minute, it would be good to sort the list alphabetically.. but now it's really cool to pick a group and have a lightning fast dump of the group's prods
http://www.retro-remakes.net |
| | Slams: ∞ | I've modified the search page to do what I think you were after I've also made it split up the individual groups from a production that has more than one group associated with it, so that it will bring up all the prods that a group is associated with rather than just the combination of groups.
As for the resource page, I mite be able to do something quick, but I will have to talk to Shockwave about it when he next gets the chance. It mite mean changing the phase order of the sites development.
I know you think you understand what you
thought I said but I'm not sure you realize
that what you heard is not what I meant. |
| Stormbringer | 01-09-2008 10:12 | | Slams: 5896 | @Tetra: cool, eager to see it!! Regarding the resource page, what we basically have a resources are:
1) music in original formats and SC68 formats. I'm not sure that the tunes in their original format should be stored here as there are enough good placed to find them. However those packed in the SC68 format can be helpful for others to remake intros/cracktros/demos/etc
Also Hellsangel made a nice player for the tunes in the SC68 format.
Another reason could be that although tunes are available in their original format, it's often a mess to have them work properly in classic players like DeliPlayer and others. The SC68 format allows the tune to be packed along with its replay routine and therefore it will always work!
2) graphics! esentially fonts, maybe logos (as a lot of intros resuse them).
How I see the ressource page? good question. For me, it has to be simple. Ideally for graphics they should be displayed if possible, to quickly find the right one. For example the classic font by Sector9/Razor 1911 comes in about 6 different sizes and variations. It would be nice to display the charset. I guess if we store the charsets and logos as GIF files, then they could be easily displayed and also they will keep all their properties (such as color palettes, etc).
Later maybe, it could be nice to add cross-links between a prod and it's resources...but it's not an emergency right now.
Also this could help a lot for the DBF upcoming compo..

| | Slams: ∞ | @Stormbringer: I see what you are saying now, tomorrow is my day off, I will do something then for it I mite be able to make a quick simple resource page if you tell me what would be needed.
I know you think you understand what you
thought I said but I'm not sure you realize
that what you heard is not what I meant. |
